So this image is obviously processed out the wazoo. The Original is here.

I happened upon this doll while on a trip to BDI to get a Hot Fudge Sundae, I thought it was a little kooky so I snapped a pic. I'm actually planning on heading over to BDI to try to get a nice photo of it at night sometime. Perhaps I'll be posting that later this week, or early next week... we'll see.

Another image of Mad Mike, really I was using it to try out some of my new(ish) photoshop tutorials from Chromasia.com. I'm slowly working my way through his great tutorials, and this is the result from reading about B&W conversion and the Curves channel.

Spray Paint Guy

Another Winnipeg Landmark, (at least in my books) is the Spray Paint guy at The Forks. I'm sure over the years he 's killed many many brain cells in the name of art. I seem to recall that he used to wear a respirator, but it seems that he's given it up as of late. Right after this shot he finished what he was working on and looked up to see if anyone was going to buy it - no one did... I'm not too sure how many people hang up images of Jimmy Hendrix with the Solar System behind it; he may want to reconsider his subject matter.

"Mad" Mike

This is something that I've wanted to do for a good long while. I love the look and idea of "street" photography, but I've never managed to actually do it. Walking up to someone and asking to take their picture is a little intimidating, however...

"Mad" Mike as I now know him lives in St. Boniface - I used to see him all the time when I lived in the area. On my way home from work I spotted him enjoying the great weather we've been having so I decided that I'd like to photograph him. It was a great first experience in street photography. I introduced myself, struck up a conversation and then asked to take his picture - of which he was more than willing to give.

"Mad" Mike used to be "the voice of the North" on 590 CFAR AM in Flin Flon, but on June 15th, 1967 his radio career ended when he was involved in a serious car accident. His injuries were extensive.
He was on his way to Expo '67 in Montreal. It took him 4 months to even remember he was ever on the radio. Doctors at the time told his parents to find a good nursing home for him as they assumed he was never going to be able to care for himself again.

Since then Mike has been through 13 surgeries and spent approximately 8 years of his life in various hospitals. He is fully able to walk, but uses a wheelchair as some of his medications cause his feet to feel like they are asleep making walking quite painful. He's often seen in and around the St. Boniface area enjoying the summer and chatting with others. In the few moments I spent with him several people waved from their cars and shouted hello to Mike.

Currently Mike works as a counselor, sharing his story of overcoming the odds to others with disabilities.

This is from the first trip out to the Bridge Drive In of the year. The line up was pretty large as it was mothers day, but well worth it.

Again an orchid at the conservatory. However this time the place was full of them. The Manitoba Orchid Society was hosting its annual Orchid show. This morning the organizers were allowing photographers with tripods to come in to shoot the flowers. Visit the MOS at http://www.manitobaorchidsociety.ca/index.php
